George Barris Funeral – A Custom Car legend laid to rest in LA

The procession to George Barris\’ funeral at Forest Lawn Glendale was a car show and funeral all in one. Paying their respects to the custom car builder and Icon of the custom car and Hot Rod movement. Friends, fans and of course family members gathered Saturday outside the Hall of Liberty  at the Forest Lawn to pay respects and memory of one of the greats. Custom car legend George Barris.  Doing so in style and class was how many arrived. Driving their own awesome vehicles of all shapes and sizes.

Barris, died Nov. 5 at the age of 89, made famous mostly from building vehicles for an array of major features in Hollywood like the Batmobile for the 60s television show, or the “Munster Koach” for the sitcom \”The Munsters,\” and eventually building custom cars for alot of the Hollywood stars of the day. Elvis Presley and John Wayne to name but a few.

As would have been his wish… was to go out in style riding in something awesome… This custom casket was as much a work of art as any of George\’s creations. Inside Forest Lawn’s Hall of Liberty, George Barris could be seen wearing his signature shades – resting in a casket decorated with pinstripes, plastic fins and custom gold paint job. While meantime people whom he inspired wandered through the parking lot, marveling at the hot rods, roadsters and muscle cars everywhere.
