BatteryPete meets Iconic car – The Speed Racer’s Rocket Ship
How many of us remember the childhood cartoon Speedracer? Here is a gearheads rendition in fiberglass and steel with Pete.
Speed Racer, also known as Mach GoGoGo an animated Japanese cartoon about auto racing. Originally printed in 1966 – going to Tv in 1967-1968 in Japan. Much later to be re-broadcast in the 1990’s under the title Speed Racer Classics, then most recently again in japan in 2008
Speed Racer was first created and designed by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida (1932–1977) as a series in the 1960s and made the jump to TV as an anime series in 1967. The actual manga was inspired by Yoshida’s earlier, and more popular automobile racing comics, Pilot Ace. Pilot Ace’s main story line would take the shape of Speed Racer, which brought to life in cartoon fashion the life and ambitions of a young race car driver.
The characters look and his race car no doubt had been influenced by the silver screen movies of the era and there widely know success. Elvis Presley and James Bond! Combining the good looks and driving image of Elvis with a car full of gadgets like 007 Aston Martin was sure to be a hit.
A hit is was – since then it has taken on a cult like following in Japan and the western world. Here are more photos of a really cool car with history. Kudo’s to the gentleman that built this thing.
